OVERVIEW
Our work bridges critical nodes of the plant health value chain to meet our vision: "disease-free crops for food and income security for all in Africa".
WAVE RESEARCH's strength lies in its experienced African researchers whose indigenous/homegrown knowledge and shared passion to contribute to national development, drives to collaboratively evolve functional national and regional plant health systems. In our molecular biology, tissue culture and symbiotic micro-organism laboratories, WAVE identifies, maps and tracks plant diseases that limit agricultural productivity and threaten food security in Africa.

Capacity building
Training is an important component of WAVE’s approach for a better control and management of transboundary plant pathogens. Indeed, training and mentoring programs are conducted in all WAVE member countries for MSc and PHD students.

PARTICIPATORY SURVEILLANCE
We believe that effective disease management starts at the grassroots. Our participatory surveillance program empowers local farmers and extension workers to become the first line of defense against agricultural threats.
PLANT DISEASE PROTOCOL
Observation
Farmers identify and document symptoms, discolorations or deficiencies in crop leaves or roots.
Sampling
Trained agents collect physical plant samples from the field using basic sample techniques.
Diagnostics
Rigorous labs perform advanced PCR and genomic sequencing to identify the exact pathogen.
Response
Rapid deployment of containment guidelines and distribution of clean, virus-free seeds.
